Published in 1612, John Smith's book and accompanying map entitledA Map of Virginia: With a Description of the Countrey, The Commodoties, People, Government and Religion…tells the story of the Virginia voyages under the first charter. While John Smith undoubtedly wrote a large portion of this work, historians believe that many of the men who accompanied him on his voyages in the Chesapeake Bay wrote smaller sections. Much of what appeared in Smith's work was republished in William Strachey's不妨旅行到弗吉尼亚碧然德nia.
